The Ministry of Higher Education (MOHE) has introduced the inaugural Current Research in Malaysia (CREAM) status to promising academic journals published by academic publishers around the country.

CREAM status is introduced as a way for publishers to boost continued excellence in education. 12 academic journals have been identified as 2015 winners. These journals are picked from over 130 journals—all of which indexed by MyCite—published by various publishers across the country.

Journals accorded the CREAM status received the Publication Encouragement Scheme, which comes together with certificate and monetary award, between RM12,500 and RM25,000. The Scheme comes with two main winning categories: journals indexed in Web of Science (WoS); and journals indexed in Scopus.

Scopus category winners received RM12,500, whereas WoS category winners won RM25,000.

Penerbit Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM Press), Penerbit Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM Press) and Penerbit Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM Press) are among the winners in this year’s award.

The award-giving ceremony was held in Aseania Resort, Langkawi, Malaysia, on 3 September 2015, held in conjunction with National High Impact Scholarly Publications Workshop. The Minister of Higher Education, Dato’ Seri Idris Jusoh, officiated the ceremony.
