AI’s grip on everything is going to scale to every moment in our lives. Though obvious, the implications are not so. In publishing, this will happen as well (is happening). From decision-making to editing to—I hate to say it—development of the content itself.
My suspicion is that we will move toward AI generated content for the bulk of what we consume, just like I sit down at my machine-generated kitchen table, in my machine-generated chair, eating my often machine-generated food, served in machine-generated pottery. Someday, we’ll see authors slinging their allegedly hand-crafted, self-published works (published on demand, of course, by machines) at the state fair right alongside the hand-crafted pottery guy. I think this is inevitable.
